Entertainment space

The Evening Room

Cinema performance. A room that still belongs to the family.

Illustrative design story — a proposed solution, not a completed client project.

An entertainment room with a large dark screen, broad taupe sofa, tobacco fabric walls and walnut joinery.

The brief

A place to come together.

The starting point is a family who want an absorbing cinema experience without rows of individual seats or a room that feels reserved for special occasions. It should be just as inviting for music, a quiet conversation or a Sunday afternoon.

We propose planning the screen, listening positions, speaker locations and room finishes together. That lets the interior support the experience from the outset, instead of asking equipment to compensate for the room later.

Proposed integration

Performance starts with the room

The broad sofa gives the family a shared place to settle. Screen size and viewing distance would be chosen around that seating position, while acoustic treatment would be developed with the room dimensions and construction. The aim is clear dialogue, convincing scale and a comfortable experience across the seats the family actually use.

Behind the finish

The detail behind the calm

Fabric surfaces and walnut joinery provide a coherent visual language for the proposed installation. Speaker concealment, ventilation, cable routes and access would be resolved before the finishes are ordered. Removable panels and reachable equipment keep maintenance practical without turning the room into a display of technology.

One simple beginning

A single familiar scene would prepare the entertainment system and bring the room lighting down to a comfortable level. The family can choose a film and sit together, with a little light left for a drink or a child moving around. The technology should support the evening without becoming its main event.

What it makes possible

An evening worth staying in for.

An inviting room designed for shared attention: the feeling of being drawn into a film, with the comfort and familiarity of home.

Beyond the first day

Made to be lived with.

A real project would include testing, a clear handover and an agreed support arrangement. Final performance, equipment and construction details would be established through the design process.

Care beyond handover
